The Roero

The Roero is a geographic region of Piemonte, situated in the North-West of the province of Cuneo. Its name derives from the family of the same name who has rules that part of Piemonte from the Middle Ages.

The Roero zone is mainly hilly and is cultivated with fruit and vineyards. The rocks on which either a village or a castle was built upon, are typical of this area.
The two main centres of Roero are Bra (considered the historical capital of Roero) and Canale.
This geographical delimitation is divided in the following Communes: Baldissero d’Alba, Castagnito, Castellinaldo, Ceresole Alba, Cisterna d’Asti, Corneliano d’Alba, Guarene, Magliano Alfieri, Montá, Montaldo Roero, Monteu Roero, Monticello d’Alba, Piobesi d’Alba, Pocapaglia, Priocca, Sanfré, Santa Vittoria d’Alba, Santo Stefano Roero, Sommariva del Bosco, Sommariva Perno, Vezza d’Alba.

The area of Roero is famous for prestigious wines and just to mention some: Roero, Roero Arneis, RoeroArneis Spumante, Roero Superiore.
From the tourist point of view Roero is equally famous as the near Langhe, rich in history with its many castles and old villages accompanied with excellent cuisine and famous wines.

Presently it has been proposed to include the Roero together with Langhe and Monferrato to the list of World Heritage for Humanity of UNESCO.
