The Monferrato
Piemontecase - MonferratoThe Monferrato area is very hilly and is mainly surrounded by the provinces of Alessandria and Asti and to the South it starts from the right of the river Po up to the Ligurian Apennines on the border of the Province of Savona.

The Monferrato is divided in Basso and Alto Monferrato (Low and High Monferrato)

The Low Monferrato is the largest of the two where the land is scattered by gentle hills never higher that 400 metres, with the exemption of Sacro Monte di Crea (420 metres); the rivers Po and Tanaro mark the North and East boundaries, the valley of the river Belbo marks the South boundary, the boundary of the provinces between Asti and Cuneo mark the West and this is the exact point where the Langhe and then Roero start.

Piemontecase - BrachettoThe High Monferrato extends from the Bormida valley to the feet of the Ligurian Apennine; it is delimitated South by the Bormida di Spigno Valley and East by the Lemme valley.
The Monferrato is one of the most known wine regions in the world mainly for his red wines and spumante wines.

Among the wines (DOC and DOCG) the most famous are:
Barbera,
Dolcetto,
Grignolino,
Brachetto,
Malvasia,
Freisa
And the very renowned Moscato d’Asti.
