The Langhe is a historical region of Piemonte situated between the province of Cuneo and Savona, it consists of a large hilly land defined by the river Tanaro, Belbo, Bormida of Millesimo and Bormida of Spigno. It can be divided in:
High Langa: It confines with Liguria, the hills reach a height of 750 metres., the highest 890 metres in the commune of Mombarcaro, this is a zone covered by woods. We must not forget the White Truffle of Alba, for which each year a famous Fair is held attracting many visitors nationally and internationally. The hazelnuts named the Gentle Round of the Langhe (la Tonda Gentile delle Langhe) are cultivated everywhere, very famous for its quality and used in many produces world wide famous.
There are also many cheeses For a number of years this area is a famous food and wine destination, thanks to its excellent products and also for art and culture thanks to its natural beauty, old castles and monuments found in this zone. Recently it has been proposed to include the Langhe , Monferrato and Roero in the list of the World Heritage for Humanity of UNESCO. Although the Langhe is quite near the sea winters are very snowy, with an average yearly fall of 50-100 cm. also on low altitudes the snow can stay on the ground up to 30 days. However, during the last few years rain and snow have seriously diminished, especially in the late spring, and increased in the autumn. |
